Ardith Kyle Smith, 90, of Alburnett, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023, at Alburnett Methodist Church in Alburnett, with an additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Lafayette Cemetery in rural Alburnett, with full military honors, accorded by the Toddville American Legion and the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail.
Ardith was born on July 7, 1933, in Central City, Iowa, the son of George and Gertrude (Smith) Smith. He served honorably in the United States Army, in Germany, during the Korean War. On June 10, 1956, Ardith was united in marriage to Carol Ann Tritle in Alburnett, Iowa. He was a member of the Alburnett Lions Club, Toddville American Legion, Alburnett Historical Society, and Alburnett Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Linn County Cattleman’s Association. Ardith enjoyed gardening, cutting firewood, card club, and raising cattle. His greatest joy was spending time with family and following their sports activities and other events. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ardith is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 67 years, Carol; four children, Teresa (David) Philipp of Alburnett, Gregg (Cindi) Smith of Marion, Iowa, Steven (CeCe) Smith of Chanhassen, Minn., and Rick Smith of Alburnett; 13 grandchildren, Kristin (Dave) Stein, Kevin (Courtlin) Miller, Alec (Kendra) Philipp, Joey Philipp (Hanna Severson), Erica Smith, Brenton (Chrissy) Smith, Andrew Smith, Nicholaus (Julia) Smith, Cayla Smith, Elise Smith, Nicole Smith, Luke Smith, and Ryan Smith; seven great-grandchildren, Braydon, Brooklynn, Hailey, Carter, Mireya, Keelan, and Calvin; brother, Clellen “Pete” (Florence) Smith of Olin, Iowa; a sister, Hilda Martin of Alburnett; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Norma Knapp; brothers, Don, Aubrey, Wayne, Lowell, Cledith, and Fay Smith; and an infant sister, Fern Smith.
