Ronald George Ahrens was born July 3, 1935, in rural Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Frank and Florence (Wiebold) Ahrens. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Ron attended Trinity Lutheran School and graduated from Hilton Consolidated High School in Conroy. He served in the United States Army from 1954 to 1955. Ron was united in marriage to Nancy Rae Wise on Nov. 27, 1963, in Brighton, Iowa. Ron worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power for 32 years retiring in 1991.
His second home of 40 years was his boat house at Ellis Boat Harbor on the Cedar River where he enjoyed fishing and time on the water with his family and friends. Ron was an avid sports fan devoting his energy to the Iowa Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers, and Chicago Cubs. He raised two active sons and loved watching them participate in their high school sports.
Ron was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Ron died on Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 88 years. His care in recent years was more than they could dream for with the staff and residents becoming a second family to Nancy and Ron both.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons, Nicholas (Ceara) Ahrens of Parker, Colo., and Michael (Cathy) Ahrens of Bettendorf; five grandchildren, Bayley, Avery, Riley, Kobe and Zoey; two sisters, Marilyn Murphy of Williamsburg and Ruth Ann Tatone of Los Angeles, Calif.; and a brother, Gerald (Rita) Ahrens of Silver Springs, Md. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janet, and two brothers-in-law, Robert Murphy and Vern Fullmer.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2023, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Conroy. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Memorial may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
