Sarah R. Shonrock, 46, of Coralville, died peacefully Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at home surrounded by her family after a long illness.
Growing up in Newton, Iowa, she graduated from Newton High School in 1995. She earned degrees at the University of Northen Iowa in 1999 and the University of Iowa in 2002.
Sarah found a home at The Englert Theatre in 2007 after working with several local theatres. She was passionate about youth programming and community outreach.
On July 16, 2005, Sarah married Derek Shonrock on the stage of the original Hancher Auditorium. Sarah and Derek had two children, Michael and Sadie, and moved to Coralville with their beloved cats.
Sarah is survived by her husband Derek, their children, her parents, brother Nathan Stone (Julia), mother-in-law Diana Shonrock, sisters-in-law Kelley Seyller (Jeff), Sara Shonrock (David), and Maggie Shonrock (Maurice), and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law William Shonrock.
An informal gathering of family and friends to remember Sarah will be held at The Englert Theatre from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Coralville Public Library, Coralville Food Pantry, The Englert Theatre, or to similar local charities in your area.
