William R. “Billy” McVicker, 46, of Hiawatha was born on Aug. 25, 1977, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Bill and Sandy (Finley) McVicker. He passed away Oct. 29, 2023.
Visitation: 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, at King of Kings Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Dunkard Cemetery, Midway, Iowa.
Billy is survived by his mom Sandy and dad Bill, his sister Sara Matheny (Shawn), nephews Zach and Aiden Matheny, niece Bella Matheny, grandmother Flora Lou Finley, and aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Bill and Joyce McVicker and Rex Finley and cousin Brad Mauderer.
Billy was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Life wasn’t always easy, but he enjoyed family and friends and conversing with them through social media. He enjoyed watching and rooting for the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls, Chicago Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes.
He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1996. Billy earned a diploma as a microcomputer specialist at Kirkwood Community College in 2003.
He faced every day with a smile on his face, even his last day. He was an inspiration to everyone he met. It was our honor to take care of him for 46 years.
