Woman injured in shooting, nearby Taylor Elementary School briefly locked down

A woman was seriously injured and a nearby Cedar Rapids Elementary School was temporarily locked down after a shots-fired incident on 10th St SW.
According to a media release, Cedar Rapids Police were called at 3:03 p.m. on Monday and notified that shots had been fired in the vicinity of the 500th block of 10th St SW.
While officers were investigating at the scene, they were informed that a woman, who had been shot, was transported to a local hospital in a private vehicle. She was admitted to the hospital and is currently listed as being in serious condition. Her injuries are not likely to be fatal, according to the release.
Police say they followed standard protocol and advised administrators at nearby Taylor Elementary School to lock down their facility while officers and investigators secured the scene. The lockdown was lifted a short time after, at 3:20 p.m. Police said that no students or staff were involved in the incident.
According to the release, investigators are asking anyone with information about this incident to come forward and speak with them by calling 319-286-5491. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and no further information is being released by police at this time.
