Iowa’s next game: Nov. 7 vs. North Dakota, 7 p.m. (regular season-opener)
What to know:
This will be the Carver-Hawkeye debut for six scholarship Iowa players, including transfer Ben Krikke and 2022 high school Mr. Basketballs Pryce Sandfort (Iowa) and Brock Harding (Illinois).
Iowa’s season-opener is next Tuesday at home against North Dakota at 7 p.m.
Quincy is a Division II school in Quincy, Ill. The Hawks were 14-15 last season, 10-10 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Like over half of the league’s 14 members, It is more than 300 miles from the nearest Great Lake. Upper Iowa is a first-year member.
Steve Hawkins is Quincy’s head coach. He had that position at Western Michigan from 2003 to 2020. The Broncos won 20-plus games seven times in that period, and went to two Division I NCAA tournaments. He coached Quincy before that, and led the Hawks to three D-II NCAA tourneys.
Ten of Quincy’s players are sophomores or freshmen.
Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo was the featured guest at Quincy’s Men's Basketball Annual Tip-Off Banquet on Sept. 17.
