I enthusiastically support Mandi Remington for Iowa City City Council in the upcoming election on Nov. 7.
While this is a personal recommendation, I have come to know and admire Mandi’s work through my own experience as a co-director of the Agape Café. The Agape Café is in its 30th year of providing free, restaurant-style breakfasts on a weekly basis for community members facing food insecurity.
The Agape Cafe is part of the Corridor Community Action Network (CCAN). Mandi founded CCAN. It is a much needed opportunity for nonprofits in the Corridor to network and strengthen community ties. We are all stronger working together. Mandi’s vision and even more importantly, her dedication, has grown this organization into a vital resource in a short amount of time. I have been especially impressed at the breadth of her inclusion; participation in this network provides opportunities to access not only local, but regional and statewide resources.
An ideal candidate for City Council is someone who is service-oriented, committed to the work, an excellent communicator, and who understands the complexities facing our community.
Mandi Remington is such a candidate. I look forward to her election to the Iowa City City Council.
