IOWA CITY — Iowa football will have another year of Cade McNamara at quarterback.
The former third-team all-Big Ten quarterback confirmed his intentions to return to the Hawkeyes in 2024 in a social media post Wednesday evening.
“I had a vision when I decided to come to Iowa, and that vision remains the same,” McNamara said in the social media post. “There is still a lot I want to accomplish in the Black and Gold and look forward to bringing it to life in the 2024 season.”
Wednesday’s social media announcement is not a surprise after Kirk Ferentz previously said McNamara’s intentions are to “come back and play next year” for the Hawkeyes.
The 2024 season will be McNamara’s sixth and final year of eligibility.
The Michigan transfer’s first season at Iowa was marred with adversity. He missed two weeks of fall camp with a quad injury and put up career-low numbers as Iowa’s starting quarterback until his season-ending injury.
He completed 51.1 percent of his passes while throwing four touchdowns and three interceptions. He averaged 5.6 yards per passing attempt.
McNamara recently underwent surgery to repair the left knee injury.
“The road ahead is a rigorous one, but nothing I haven’t overcome before,” McNamara said in the social media post. “I can’t wait to get back to Iowa City to support my teammates for the rest of this season.”
