Donna Louise McGlynn, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at Keystone Cedars, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Friday, Oct. 20, 2023.
Donna was born in Des Moines, Iowa, Sept. 15, 1933. In 1953 she married Jack McGlynn at Camp Chafee, Ark. Jack and Donna lived in Des Moines until 1959 when they moved to Cedar Rapids to raise their family.
Donna was a celebrated seamstress, making her children’s clothing, creating curtains and quilts of all shapes and sizes, and shortening pants, which was much needed by some family members. Donna also designed and constructed crafts including wreaths and holiday decorations cherished by her family for generations. She also loved to garden and passed this on to all of her children. Donna worked inside and outside the home, including positions with The American Red Cross, Peoples Bank and McKee Enterprises. She made wonderful friends and lasting friendships during her working career.
After retirement, Donna and Jack traveled often to Louisiana and The Gulf Coast of Florida. They loved Destin, Fla., and wintered there for several years.
Donna and Jack were married for 70 years, an anniversary she had to celebrate without him, as he preceded her in death on June 18, 2023. Donna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by Marcy Bader (Dave), Coon Rapids, Minn., Sheila Faust (Tom), Arvada, Colo., Brian McGlynn (Kim), Marion, Iowa, and Shayla Guinn, Tampa, Fla. She is also survived by loving and adoring grandchildren Shane (Britta) Bader, Fridley, Minn., Cara Bader, Chicago Ill., Andrea Faust, Arvada, Colo., Sarah McGovern, Cedar Falls, Emily Kobush (Andy), Arvada, Colo.. Jessica (Nick) McGlynn, Des Moines, Iowa, Christian (Alexis) McGlynn, Tamp, Fla., Owen McGlynn, Cedar Rapids, Rian (Jaime) McGlynn, Clarence, Iowa, and Dillon (Kali) Guinn, Tampa, Fla. She also had 15 great-grandchildren. Donna was preceded in death by her husband Jack, sons Patrick and Michael, sons-in-law Mike Faust and Greer Guinn, and grandson Connor Guinn.
Very Special thanks to Keystone Cedars, Cedar Rapids and Hospice of St. Croix for guiding Mom home. Also thank-you to all who have supported Donna in so many ways with cards, calls and visits during this time.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where a visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until service time. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials can be sent to: Hospice of St. Croix.
