Betty Ann Beardshear, 76, of Washington, IA, formerly of Iowa City, passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at her home. A private service will be held, and burial will be at Memory Gardens Mausoleum. A celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 3-6 PM at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City.
Betty was born on June 23, 1947, in Iowa City, IA, the daughter of Clyde and Alice (Moore) Lenoch. She graduated from Iowa City High School. Betty was united in marriage to Larry Beardshear on June 18, 1966, at Christ The King Church, Iowa City; he preceded her in death on January 21, 2009. She was a secretary for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from 40 years retiring in 2008. Betty was a member of the American Bowling Association, American Legion Auxiliary, The Moose Lodge and Eagles Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping and boating with friends and family. Betty especially enjoyed cooking for her loved ones.
Betty is survived by three children, Angie (Steve) Leichty of Williamsburg, Kim (Brian) Coleman of Washington, and Chris Bearshear of Ottumwa; seven grandchildren, McKenzie (Jay) Buline, Jacob (Addison) Leichty, Olivia (Garrett) Harrison, Trevor (Taylor) Beardshear, Travis (Alexey) Coleman, Tanner (Madison Rogers) Coleman and Mason Beardshear; eleven great-grandchildren, Kipton, Maely, Demi, Everett, Ivy, Mavis, Emerson, Hudson, Brooks, Decker, Octavia, with one on the way; six sisters, Susan (Gary) Wilcox-Nester of Washington, Kris (Mike) Zimmerman of Milwaukee, WI, Ruth Brenneman of Marengo, Marcheale (Terry) Poggenpohl of St. Augustine, FL, Amy (Chris) Grostic of North Liberty, and Candice Thalken of Iowa City.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Larry “Boogie” Beardshear.
