Joseph O. Beach, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, October 9, 2023. A funeral service took place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, with a visitation one hour prior. Private family inurnment will take place at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Joseph was born June 18, 1937, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of James and Bernice (Hinkle) Beach. He graduated from Oskaloosa High School and went on to obtain his master’s degree in teaching from the University of Iowa. Joseph was united in marriage to Joan Ruth Monks on August 14, 1965, in Bettendorf, Iowa. He worked as a science teacher at Wilson Junior High for 12 years, Franklin Junior High for 10 years, and Taft Junior High for one year until his retirement in 2002.
Joseph was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, the Iowa Science Teachers Section of the Iowa Academy of Science, Eastern Iowa Science Engineering Fair, Wildlife Outdoor Club, Iowa Wildlife Federation, Sierra Club, Audubon Society, Iowa Turkey Federation, Izaak Walton League, and Skippers with Mariners at church.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joan Beach; daughter, Pam (Mike) Siech of Robins, Iowa; three grandchildren, Kaylee (Tyson) Schultz, Kelsey (John) Meeker, and Taylor (Skyla) Siech; and six great-grandchildren, Ruth, MyAnna, Annika, Audi, Finley, and Hazel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bernice Beach; sisters, Dorothy Beach Jackson, Virginia Lucille Beach; and nephew, Jim Jackson.
