Lorraine Julia Remington, 86, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at her home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Lorraine was born on Jan. 21, 1937, in Winthrop, Iowa, the daughter of Francis and Artazena (Carradus) Kirby. She married Robert “Tuff” Jones on Sept. 10, 1955; three children were born to this union. He passed away in 1975. Lorraine worked for Rockwell Collins until her retirement in 1992 and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where she thoroughly enjoyed attending when she was able. On June 19, 1982, Lorraine was united in marriage to Elton “Al” Remington in Anamosa, Iowa. The couple enjoyed dancing and traveling together. In her retirement she was a school crossing guard, which was one of her most favorite jobs. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, bird watching, the Iowa Hawkeyes, but most of all she loved spending time with her family. Lorraine will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Lorraine is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Lonnie Jones of Cedar Rapids, Mark Remington of Sun City, Ariz., Dennis Remington of Wells, Nev., Bradley (Jennifer) Remington of Woodstock, Ga.; grandchildren, Amber (Scott) Franzen, Ashley (Blake) Rodemeyer, Katie Jones, Adam Jones, Holli Jones, Jordan Remington, Jeff (Stormy) Remington, and Tonya Remington; siblings, Helen Becker, Ann (Gary) Siddell, Betty Felton, and Katie (Donald) Chapman; sisters-in-law, Betty Hoffman, Sharon Kirby, Esther Kirby; Kathryn Chooljian, and Thelma Jacobs; brother-in-law, John (Donna) Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert Jones; second husband, Elton Remington; children, Fae Johnson and Charles Jones; sisters, Frances Mae Lange, Lois Boeding, and Marjorie Burgess; and brothers, William, Edward, Donnie, John, and George Kirby; and sister-in-law, Pauline.
Memorials in Lorraine’s memory may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion.
