Dennis Lee Etringer, 71, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2023, at his home. Friends may greet family at 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the funeral home, with an additional visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Dennis was born on Nov. 18, 1951, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the son of Ruby and Marcellene (Feller) Etringer. He was a 1970 graduate of Maquoketa High School and went on to attend Iowa State University, earning his bachelor’s degree. He later earned his master’s degree in education in 2000 from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wis.
On Aug. 12, 1972, Dennis was united in marriage to Nancy Jo Ehl in Maquoketa. He worked as an elementary school teacher and coach for Britt, United and Boone Community School Districts before his retirement. He enjoyed watching and coaching sports and was an avid Cyclones fan. Denny also followed the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed traveling and wintering in Florida. Denny treasured time spent with his grandchildren and dearly loved his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dennis is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 51 years, Nancy; daughter, Jenny Lensch of Marion; son, Michael Etringer of Marion; four grandchildren, Morgan, Lauren, Peyton and Braden; two sisters, Patricia (Lyle) Schmidt of Preston, Iowa, and Lori Marsh of Cynthiana, Ky.; brother, Robert (Joy) Etringer of Marion; and numerous extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David Etringer.
Memorials in Dennis’s memory may be directed to the family to benefit several charities to be determined later.
