Deborah Sue “Debby” Carey, 72, of Columbus Junction, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, surrounded by family.
Debby was born June 25, 1951, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Max and Darlene (Stover) Sheetz. She graduated from WACO High School in 1969. Debby met the love of her life, and husband of 39 years, Bill Carey in 1984. Together they built their forever home on the family farm in 1989.
Debby worked as a bookkeeper for Mose Levy in Washington, retiring in 2009. She enjoyed traveling and taking family trips, all while taking great pleasure in the planning of those trips. She always loved going on spontaneous shopping dates with her sister Sally. But above all, Debby enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was always their biggest supporter and very proud of their accomplishments.
Debby is survived by her husband, Bill Carey of Columbus Junction, Iowa; daughter, Michelle Harbison and husband Truckie of Crawfordsville, Iowa; son, Matthew Stauffer and wife Miranda of Moscow, Iowa; grandchildren, Logan Harbison and Caedon Harbison; brother, Mike Sheetz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and sister, Becky Fort of Central City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sally Reilly; and sister, Patricia Sheetz.
A gathering to celebrate Debby’s life will be held from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the Steinbeck Conference Hall in Marr Park, Ainsworth, IA. Private family interment will take place at the Indian Creek Cemetery at a later date. A general memorial has been established. Online condolences may be sent for Debby’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
