Chad Eugene Craig, 48, took his final ride into the sunset Oct. 3, 2023. He was born the son of Carol Elaine Hilbrink and Darwin Lynn Craig on March 27, 1975. He was born and raised in Kansas with his mother and sister, Gypsy Brackney, but later lived in Kentucky where he graduated in 1993. He returned to Kansas where he was employed by DC Taylor Roofing Company. During that time, he traveled to many different states. In 2000, while traveling to Iowa he met and had a relationship with Rebecca Horak and was blessed with his one and only daughter and love of his life, Cheyenne Autumn Horak, in 2001. He decided at that time to make Cedar Rapids, his lifelong home to be with his daughter, Cheyenne. He also spent that time with his girlfriend, Dawn.
Chad was employed at Kraft Heinz for the last 13 years where he was a valued employee and a well-loved co-worker by all who worked with him. He was very proud of his job and all the advancements he made at the Heinz Company. He will be sadly missed for his hard work and dedication.
Chad was a loving, caring, understanding and very protective father who imparted valuable life lessons and street smarts, sharing his wisdom with his daughter. He was a father, son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend. Chad loved his rat rod, ‘75 Corvette and Harley motorcycle. Chad loved building and making his own creations and projects and remodeling. Chad also loved racing, demos, car shows and just cruising around, enjoying life on his own terms. He loved his family, pets, job and was a friend to all.
Chad is survived by his mother, Carol; daughter, Cheyenne; sister, Gypsy; niece, Justice; half-sister, Chelsae; uncles, cousins and many valued friends and co-workers.
He was preceded in death by his father, Darwin Lynn Craig; both sets of grandparents; his uncle, John; and beloved pets; Petey, Angel, Stash and CJ.
Chad’s family would like to extend a special thank-you to all the people and first responders who came to the aid of Chad in his time of need that night. You are all greatly appreciated. Chad would like to thank all his family, friends and co-workers for being a part of his beautiful, wild ride through life. To know Chad was to love him.
