Respect goes both ways

Trish Mehaffey's article (Sept. 29, “Linn-Mar schools’ transgender policy too vague, violates free speech, court rules”) talks of legal challenges based on policies being void for vagueness. As a lawyer for nearly five decades and former lawmaker, I acknowledge the role of courts in making these sort of “calls.”
However, respect goes both ways. For the people who filed this suit, including book banning Iowans, I ask them to show their respect. If they acknowledge that LGBTQ or POC deserve respect, show it. I am still waiting for their efforts to toughen and fund Iowa Safe Schools laws and efforts, or other proposals. I respectfully await their response.
