Victor
William Worth Montgomery, affectionately known as “WW,” passed away on Aug. 28, 2023, after a short illness. He was born in Brooklyn, Iowa, in 1934 and graduated from HLV High School in 1952. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1953 to 1957 as a Machinists Mate. Most of his service was on USS Silverstein (DE 534) homeported at Pearl Harbor. The ship operated off North and South Korea, as well as conducting missions to U.S. protectorates including the Marshall, Caroline, Gilbert and Mariana islands. He participated in numerous nuclear weapon test events at Eniwetok and Bikini islands.
After the Navy, he married Alice Dohnal. He then
graduated from Milwaukee School of Engineering with a degree in refrigeration. Settling in Victor, Iowa, he operated a successful Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning business. WW and Alice lovingly raised four children in Victor in an idyllic setting.
WW served in the Victor volunteer fire department and was a member of the Masonic Lodge,
American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an especially active Shriner, both in Iowa and Georgia, where he served as president of the Stone Mountain Shrine Club. His work with Shrine Circuses to raise money for the Shriners’ Hospitals was noteworthy. He leaves a legacy of community service.
In 1985 WW and Alice re-located to Snellville, Ga.,
where he re-started his business and renewed his civic connections. He was blessed with five grandchildren. WW and Alice were avid world travelers. WW will be remembered as a family man and humorist.
He is survived by his children Scott Montgomery, Todd Montgomery, and Dawn Turner; grandchildren Liza Wood, Trevor Turner, Quentin Turner, William Montgomery and Allison Montgomery; great-grandchildren Porter, Turner and Hattie Wood. He was preceded by his wife Alice Dohnal Montgomery and Daughter, Lisa Macdonald.
Internment will be at the Victor Cemetery on Nov. 11, 2023, at 1 p.m.
It was a life well-lived. May he rest in peace.
