Allene Dale Pease passed away peacefully early Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023, at her home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Allene was born Dec. 20, 1949, in Chicago, Ill., to Fred Jr. and Marian (Cooney) Level. Allene was the eldest sibling to her sister Robin Level (Cedar Rapids) and brother Scott Level (Cocoa Beach, Fla). The family moved to Cedar Rapids when Allene was 13. She graduated from Jefferson High School, where she would meet the love of her life, Thomas D. Pease. Allene and Tom were married on Jan. 29, 1972. They had three children, Jacob (Marcy) Pease of Marion, Matthew Pease of Cedar Rapids and Anna Pease-Exertier of Grenoble, France. Allene graduated from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids and worked at Intermec until she retired in 2015.
Allene never turned down a chance to go on an adventure or sit outside to enjoy a glass of wine with friends. She cared so deeply for the people around her. She was kind, passionate, and always willing to lend a hand. She was the Financial Secretary for Cedar Rapids Sokol and was next in line to be the “Dumpling Queen.” She wrote the Sokol newsletter, and you could count on her serving up sausages at their annual Pancake Breakfast. She also found joy in teaching gymnastics for the Special Olympics athletes.
She loved being Grandma to Harper, Kathleen, Thomas and Apolline – often showing them that you are never too old to go down the waterslide at Bever Park. After retirement, she loved to volunteer for the Cedar Rapids School District – reading with students or being a mentor for Girls on the Run. If her grandchildren were involved or invited her – she would never hesitate.
A service will be held Friday, Oct. 6, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids with visitation to follow from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to Cedar Rapids Sokol in her honor.
