Phyllis Ruth Linkenback of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, joyfully went to Heaven on Sept. 28, 2023. Born in Cedar Rapids, Phyllis graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1956. She attended nurses training at Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, then attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago receiving a diploma in Missions and a minor in Bible. She was also certified in Midwifery from the University of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada.
In 1963, Phyllis followed the Lord’s leading and went to Shikarpur, Pakistan, as a missionary nurse where she served for 34 years. She retired in 1996 and returned to Cedar Rapids.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, Joyce Applegate (Lloyd) Summerfield, Fla.; her brother, Jim Linkenback (Jo Ellen) Summerfield, Fla.; nieces, Jill Applegate and Brooke Farrell (Tim); nephews, Kent Applegate (Machelle) and Joel Linkenback; great-niece, Olivia Farrell; great-nephews, Lincoln Farrell and Daniel Linkenback; great-great-nephew, Abel Linkenback; and many other family members and countless precious friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Elmer Linkenback and Virginia (Wentworth) Linkenback.
Services celebrating Phyllis’ life and her faithfulness to God will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Phyllis requested that memorials be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids.
