Larry E. Hartmann, 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at Buffalo United Methodist Church, 1000 30th St. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Visitation from 10 a.m. until service at the church. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service assisted the family.
Larry was born May 29, 1941, in East St. Louis, Ill., the son of Annette (Brewer) Keller and Dean Hartmann. Larry moved at the age of five to Germany, where his father was stationed and attended elementary school there until age 12. He began high school at Collinsville High School in Collinsville, Ill., and went on to graduate from Hickman High School in Columbia, Missouri. Larry attended the University of Missouri. He was united in marriage to Joyce (Talbert) Isaacs on June 29, 1991, at Buffalo United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.
Larry worked for State Farm and then owned and operated a gas station in Ashland, Mo. He later worked as the fine jewelry manager for JCPenney in Columbia for over 30 years until his retirement. Larry was a 50-plus year member of the Ashland Masonic Lodge 156, a lifetime member of the Tiger Shrine Club in Columbia and a member of the El Kahir Shriners in Hiawatha. He loved muscle cars and belonged to Old Wheels Car Club. Larry enjoyed researching genealogy, fishing and spending time at their boat house in Ellis Harbor. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hartmann of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Deborah Peterson of Columbia, Mo.; son, Terence Hartmann of Fulton, Mo.; stepson, Larry (Jeanne) Isaacs of Hiawatha, Iowa; stepdaughter, Gina (T.J.) Turner of Tiffin, Iowa; son-in-law, Vincent Chandler of Columbia; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Dean and Justine Hartmann; mother and stepfather, Annette and Phillip Keller; daughter, Donna Chandler; brother, John Hartmann; and son-in-law, Steven Peterson.
Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Buffalo United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids.
