Kathryn “Kay” Elizabeth Ehlert, 79, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 27. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 2, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with a graveside service to follow. There will be a luncheon at the Cedar Memorial Family Center directly following the funeral service on Tuesday.
Kay was born on Nov. 19, 1943, to Dale and Betty Courtney in Grinnell, Iowa. Kay had many interests throughout her lifetime, including virtually attending Waters Edge Methodist Church in Gretna, Neb., going on walks, coffee dates with friends, supporting the University of Iowa sports teams, but most of all, spending time with her family. She worked as a nurse for many years, as well as a teachers’ assistant at Linn-Mar schools. She was united in marriage on May 25, 1962, to Donald “Pat” Patrick Ehlert, until his passing in 2018.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Betty Courtney; husband, Pat Ehlert; brother, Dee Courtney; and son, Mike Ehlert.
She is survived by her daughter Missy Scardina of Batavia, Ill.; son, Mick (Lisa) Ehlert of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Aaron (Courtney) Drendel, Courtney (Eli) Winkle, Brooke Ehlert, Jackson Ehlert, Morgan Ehlert, Regan Ehlert, Riley Ehlert, Madison (Xavier) Bou, and Jordan Ehlert; and great-grandchildren, Ellie Drendel, Harrison Drendel, and Lionel Winkle.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Waters Edge Methodist Church located at 19600 Harrison St., Gretnam, NE 68028 in care of Kay Ehlert.
