Patricia Mae "Patty" Snyder
Cedar Rapids
Patricia Mae "Patty" Snyder was born on June 22, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and died on Sept. 24, 2023, at St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids. Patty was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose warmth and kindness touched countless lives.
Born into a family of entrepreneurs, Patty's parents founded Pierson's Flower Shop in Cedar Rapids in 1928. She continued her family's entrepreneurial tradition when she and her husband, Robert, purchased the Ced-Rel Supper Club and Motel in 1958. Patty owned and operated the business until her retirement in 2002, mentoring and inspiring her employees while balancing the demands of raising her own family.
In her leisure time, Patty had a passion for card games, particularly bridge. She was an active member of numerous bridge clubs in both Iowa and Florida, and her love for games became a gathering point for friends and family. She also enjoyed reading and could often be found in a bookstore, juggling two or three books at once to decide which she liked best.
Travel also brought Patty immense joy, especially her trips to Las Vegas. She had a special affection for Caesar's Palace and took great pleasure in playing blackjack and three-card poker.
After retiring, Patty cherished spending winters in Ft. Myers, Fla. There, she enjoyed quality time with her family and friends, playing cards, celebrating the holidays, and enjoying the sunny days.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Roland E. and Ruth A. Pierson; her brother, Robert E. Pierson; her husband, Robert J. Snyder; her long-time partner, William E. Burrell; her children, Steven R. Snyder, Jeannine S. Douglas-Roberts, and Julie A. Snyder-Klinger; and her grandchild, Michael B. Douglas. Despite facing such profound losses, Patty's strength and resilience continue to inspire everyone who knew her and stand as a testament to her strong spirit and character.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Brian J. Douglas (Daniel C. Royer) in Des Moines and Jared R. Snyder, as well as her great-grandchildren, Sylis and Stevie Ray Snyder, from The Dalles, Ore. Also mourning her loss are her sons-in-law, Phillip "Flip" Klinger of Cedar Rapids and David G. Roberts of West Des Moines. She leaves behind grandchildren Shantel, Brad (Molly) Klinger of Cedar Rapids, and Matt (Jane) Klinger of San Francisco, along with many more family and friends who brightened her world.
The family will hold a private service and burial. They kindly ask that everyone take a moment to remember the time spent with Patty and to carry forward the values and resolve she demonstrated throughout her life.
