Keep Mercy IC a hospital after sale
Rev. Bob Welsh
Sep. 24, 2023 6:00 am
I have never been a patient at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. I am not a Catholic. In fact, I am a retired Protestant minister. I have visited many patients. I have known many doctors and administrators who have worked at Mercy.
I was disappointed that the revised sale of Mercy Iowa City does not require that the property be a hospital. I am not a Realtor, but my guess is that other uses might be more lucrative and thus be the death of Mercy.
I trust, in rating, the bids that hospital usage will rank high. I want the present staff to have professional security and the past staff to receive their pension.
The Sisters of Mercy have served the Iowa City Community well for many years. And I hope Mercy will be a part of the future of Iowa City.
