Everett Leon Young, 77, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. at the church. A burial will follow at a later date.
Everett was born Sept. 28, 1945, to Cleland and Irene Young in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Central City High School in 1962. He joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. In 1969, Everett married Linda Raymond of LaPorte City and they have resided in Marion ever since. Everett worked for Harnishfeger in Cedar Rapids and retired from the City of Marion.
Everett enjoyed spending his time working on various projects in the garage, tinkering with his John Deere tractor, camping, playing cards, helping out neighbors and teasing his grandchildren.
Everett is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Young of Marion; children, Christopher (Cammi Coleman) Young, Jon (Cindy)Young, Sara (Darrell) Krsek of Marion and Brian Young of Arkansas; grandchildren; Brianna, Shale, Dylan, Blayden, Timothy, Kyla, Talyn, Alyvia and Kovey; as well as many lifelong friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleland and Irene; step-father, Willis Richardson; and a grandson, Trae.
The family would like to thank Everett’s doctors and the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha for the loving care he received.
