Duane J. Novotny, 82, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, with visitation one hour prior at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Duane was born on Dec. 23, 1940, in Clutier, Iowa, the son of Emil and Eleanor (Yuska) Novotny. He was a graduate of Toledo High School and went on to serve honorably in the U.S. Army. On Nov. 23, 1968, Duane was united in marriage to Fran Baldwin in Vinton, Iowa. He was an active member of the Communication Workers of America and St. Joseph Catholic Church. In his spare time, he liked to fish and spend time with family. Duane will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Duane is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 55 years, Fran Novotny; daughters, Danica Novotny of Marion and Darcie McGee of Eldridge, Iowa; grandchildren, Kenna, Vivian and Hope McGee; and siblings, Dennis (Doris) Novotny and Diane (Roger) Thiessen, both of Tama, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; son, Dustin Novotny; and granddaughter, Kylie McGee.
