Andrea Louise (Pettyjohn) Henley, 47, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, at Mercy Medical Center. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church by Rev. Gary Mayer. Private family burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with a rosary to follow. Teahen funeral home is caring for Andrea and her family.
Andrea is survived by her husband of 25 years, Jamie; children, Jaden (Marie), Anden, Lainey; parents, Rick and Sandy Pettyjohn; siblings, Derek (Melissa) Barnard, Kara (Amber) Worthington, Rikki (Brian) Kreger; parents in-law, Roger and Judy Henley; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws and her Regis and Giving Tree Theater family.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents Verda and Alfred Pettyjohn and Anne and Jim Hill.
Andrea was born on Jan. 13, 1976, in Oskaloosa, daughter of Rick and Sandy (Hill) Pettyjohn. She graduated in 1994 from LaSalle High School, Mt. Mercy University in 1998 and received her Masters of Education in 2009 from Morningside College. Thirty-two years ago Andrea met Jamie at a theater conference when he reached back and she took his hand. They married on Aug. 1, 1998, at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Andrea spent 25 years teaching and sharing her love of learning with students in Ohio, Indiana, and Iowa. For the last 11 years she taught Language Arts at Regis Middle School. She and Jamie have owned Giving Tree Theater in Marion since 2019. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
Andrea loved her family and friends, her faith, her students; past and present, ALL things theater, reading and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Andrea Henley Memorial Scholarship fund at Xavier High School, 6300 42 St. NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52411. The scholarship will go towards Xavier students following their dream to teach.
