Marlene (Cosgrove) O’Rourke of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, after her courageous battle with cancer. The Funeral Mass is at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa, followed by burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation is for one hour before the funeral service. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Marlene, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Ethel Cosgrove, was born on Sept. 11, 1937. Marlene attended St Patrick’s School in Cedar Rapids, and graduated in 1955. David O’Rourke and Marlene were joined in Holy Matrimony on Aug. 17, 1963, at Immaculate Conception Church in Cedar Rapids. Marlene worked as a secretary at Boner TV Sales & Service in Cedar Rapids. Marlene and Dave then moved to Marion in 1967 and became members of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church where Marlene also volunteered.
Marlene is survived by her husband, Dave; sisters, Joan Ourada from Sioux Falls, S.D., and Pat (Bob) Barnett of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; and her brothers, Father Bill Cosgrove of Dubuque, Iowa, Dewey (Carol) of Naples, Fla., and David (Linda) of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her brother Bob and her parents, Joseph and Mary Ethel. Marlene is also survived by many nieces and nephews which she really enjoyed spending time with.
