Alan H. Klein, 78, of Cedar Rapids passed away, Thursday, Sept. 7, 2023. Visitation: 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Alan was born on April 19, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Henry and Mary (Smith) Klein. His parents were farmers. Alan’s father, Henry, died in a farm accident when Alan was 4 years old. His mother then raised the children in Independence. There were seven children in Alan’s family growing up. The boys were Don, Jim, Jack, and Alan. The girls were Joan, Beth, and Ann. On June 1, 1968, he married Wanda McGowen in Cedar Rapids. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Linda. Alan worked for Link Belt Speeder until they closed and later MCI. He helped his mother-in-law Nadine care for his father-in-law, Golden Heart. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Alan was a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves, going all the way back to their days in Milwaukee and Boston. He also cheered for the Chicago Bears and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Preceding him in death were his parents, daughter Linda Klein in 2020, brothers Jim and Jack Klein.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Wanda of Cedar Rapids, brother Father Donald Klein of Marion, sisters Joan Cassen of Schleswig, Beth Rupp of Des Moines and Sister Ann Klein of Des Moines, and mother-in-law Nadine Heart of Cedar Rapids.
Memorials may be directed to St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
