Sandra Joye Pennington, 82, Tipton, passed away Sunday, Sept. 3, 2023, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

Sandra was born on Aug. 28, 1941, to Homer I. and Ruby B. (Schroeder) Mitchell. She graduated from Davenport Central with the Class of 1960 and on Aug. 26, 1961, she was united in marriage to Joseph D. Pennington. She worked alongside her husband during their farming career in rural Cedar County. Following their retirement, they worked part time for Linn Star Transport and the National Park Service in West Branch. Later, she also worked at The Tipton Greenhouse and Florist. She enjoyed the outdoors and spent time gardening and cutting wood with her husband. For those of you that knew Sandra and Joe, you always saw them together, they were inseparable and enjoyed taking day trips and spending time with their grandchildren. She loved animals but her passion was horses which led to being involved in the Cedar County Saddle Club in her younger years.

Sandra is survived by her daughter, Kyla Jo (Chris) Burnett of Bennett; two grandchildren, Jarrett and Kassandra; a brother, Richard Mitchell and his girlfriend, Lisa Olney of Mechanicsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Sandra was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Pennington, on Feb. 27, 2021; and her parents.

In keeping with Sandra’s wishes, a visitation or service will not be held. The burial will be at Woodbridge Cemetery in Buchanan, Iowa. Online condolences are welcome at www.iowacremation.com under obituaries.
