Emily Christine Oehl, 96, of Amana, Iowa, our dear mother, grandmother, entered heaven on Sept. 3, 2023. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated. A graveside service at South Amana Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Emily was born on Jan. 22, 1927, in South Amana, to George and Helen Young. She married Fred R. Oehl in 1946. She worked for the Amana Society, retiring in 1989. After traveling the world, she became a guide for the Amana Heritage Society Museums, retiring again in 2016. Emily loved music. She was a piano teacher for many years; and played the organ and the accordion. She took great pride in her home in Amana and loved her family dearly.

Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Marcia Hornbeck, Michael Oehl, Mary (Terry) Huinker and Melissa Weaver; grandchildren, Parrish (Jessica) Koele, Jessica Huinker, Autumn Gilbert, Paul Huinker, Raymond Oehl and Rebecca Oehl; great-grandchildren, Noble, Hadley and Harper Koele, Kao Talcott, and Madison Briggs; her special friends, Gerda Holub, Bonnie and Craig Kinnick; and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie; her parents; her brothers, Gerald Young and William Young; and her sons-in-law, Duffy Hornbeck and Ron Weaver.

Our heartfelt thanks to Joe Glass and all the staff at Colonial Manor, and Essence of Life Hospice for caring for mom. All of you are very special to us.
