Nice work if you can get it.
Correction: Nice pay if you can get it. The work is kind of hard.
Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson, a Chariton native who honed his craft as an Iowa Hawkeye, agreed to a new contract Thursday with his team. It is four years in length for $68.5 million, with $32 million of it guaranteed.
That would be the NFL’s all-time highest salary for a tight end. For now.
It has turned out to be a pretty good thing for Hockenson to get traded to the Vikings from Detroit, the team that drafted him in 2019.
In just 10 games with Minnesota last year, Hockenson had 60 catches for 519 yards and three touchdowns. Only Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro Travis Kelce had more receptions by a tight end in that time.
Hockenson’s 13 catches against the New York Giants last year set a Vikings single-game record for a tight end.
I guess they liked what they saw.
