Michael Francis Bender 53, son of Mary (McDonald) Bender and F. Eugene Bender died unexpectantly Aug. 18, 2023, from heart disease. Michael was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1988 and the University of Iowa in 1992, receiving his CPA in 1995.
Michael married Shannon Allen on Aug. 4, 2001, in Hawaii, and they have two children Samantha and Max. Michael was considered a hero to his kids and he was passionate about family time and watching the kid’s activities. He was an avid sports fan (graduating from the Packers to the Chiefs) and loved music. Michael worked in business and accounting for many years, most recently with Horizon Financial Solutions.
He is survived by his loving wife, Shannon; his two incredible children, Samantha and Max; his mother, Mary Bender; four sisters, Lisa (Jeff) Bender, Shelly Fabac, Amy (Rob) Sturenfeldt and Laura (John) Legate; and many nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, F. Eugene Bender.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cross Points Church in Shawnee, Kan., on Sept. 9, with a visitation at 1 p.m. followed by a celebration service at 2 p.m.
