ENOUGH ALREADY: We're glad to hear that University of Iowa officials have no plans to sell beer stadium-wide at Kinnick Stadium for football games, as the University of Minnesota does and some other major universities are contemplating. Plenty of suds already flows at tailgating gatherings and bars. And how would beer sales in Kinnick help the UI's stepped-up effort to combat the longtime problem of excessive student drinking?

TOP TEACHER: Congratulations to Tania Johnson, a veteran Cedar Rapids elementary teacher who was named Iowa's Teacher of the Year in a recent ceremony led by Gov. Terry Branstad. Johnson has taught for 22 years, 21 of them in Cedar Rapids, and espouses lifelong learning shared among colleagues.

WEST SIDE RENOVATIONS: It's encouraging to hear of Fred Timko's redevelopment interest in Cedar Rapids' near west side of the Cedar River, including renovation of the historic Louis Sullivan-designed bank building at 101 Third Ave. SW in an area hit hard by the 2008 flood. Timko is the developer of the Bottleworks Loft Condominums on the southeast side of near downtown.
