John William Seaba, 63 years old, of Iowa City, Iowa, passed away on June 2, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics from complications of renal failure. John, the oldest child of Mary Jo Colvin Seaba and James Patrick Seaba, was born on May 15, 1960, in Iowa City, Iowa. His birth was followed by three siblings: James Philip, Bruce Scott, and Kathryn Denise Seaba.
As a young teen John excelled at designing, building, and flying radio-controlled airplanes. He flew competitively locally, statewide, and nationally.
John graduated from Iowa City West High School. He then pursued a construction career. A highlight of John’s career was a home he built from the ground up that was featured in Iowa City’s 2001 Parade of Homes. John owned his construction, remodeling, and snow removal business, J.S. Construction, for 40 years.
On Dec. 19, 1981, John and Cheryl Lynn Heiderscheit were married. Christina Marie Seaba was born to them in 1982. They later divorced. Subsequently, John married Michelle Anne Martin on April 21, 1989. Their marriage resulted in the birth of John Jay Seaba in 1989 and Katelyn Renee Seaba in 1991. They also divorced.
John took pride in his woodworking craftsmanship, a trait he shared with his grandfather, John Gus Seaba. He enjoyed collecting coins and silver, fishing, hunting, watching movies, and listening to music.
John was predeceased by his parents, aunt and uncle Opal and Donald Colvin and their son Tracy, uncle William Colvin and uncle Peter Seaba.
Survivors include his children, Christina Seaba, JJ Seaba and Katelyn Seaba; his siblings, James (Nancy) Seaba, Bruce (Lisa) Seaba, Kathryn Denise Seaba; aunt Hazel Seaba; cousin Louis Seaba; nieces and nephews, Sarah Seaba, Mary (Jacob) Miller, Grace (Alex) Heckman, Benjamin Seaba and J. Ryan (Hailey) Seaba; great-niece Lorraine Seaba and great-nephew Henry Miller; and his good friend Andy Osman.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Aug. 26, 2023, at Ridgewood Cemetery, North Liberty.
