Steven James Rhinehart, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy with his wife by his side. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, where a visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Steven was born Aug. 25, 1941, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of David and Gayle (Benton) Rhinehart and was raised in Victor, Iowa. He worked for his dad’s company, Rhinehart’s of Victor doing erosion control work for the Iowa Department of Transportation and did door to door sales until he joined the Air Force.
Steven was united in marriage to Rosemary Anne DeMeyer in October of 1970 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Belle Plaine and were blessed with 52 years of marriage.
Steven enjoyed his career in sales of concrete forms while meeting a lot of people, telling stories and driving many miles. He was a member of the Victor American Legion Post 54 and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s Catholic Church in Hiawatha.
Steven played poker with friends, enjoyed watching sports, especially the Hawkeyes and Cubs, spent hours reading, loved his dogs Prince FuFu and Lainey,kept track of bargains, and looked forward to his nightly bowl of popcorn. For many years, Steve and Rose spent winters in Florida.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Rose; his daughter, Kristin (John) Hanson; his granddaughter, Allison Hanson; grandson, Charlie Hanson; his siblings, Russell (Mary) Rhinehart of Tiffin, Iowa, Janet (Dan) McConnell of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Jack (Mary) Rhinehart of Victor, Craig (Elaine) Rhinehart of Brooklyn, Iowa, Gary (Jennifer) Rhinehart of Victor, Judy (Gary) Martin of North Liberty, Iowa, Joyce (Neil) Shaull of Des Moines, Iowa, Jo Ann McGinley of Colfax, Iowa, and Kathy (Gary)Treslan of Waterloo, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert (Kathy) Rhinehart.
