I was shocked by Arleigh Clemens’ letter in the July 30 Gazette calling Norman Sherman a “light head” who publishes “weekly rants” and I wonder if he knows that Norman is 94 this year. I could never have expressed an opinion as well, and I’m 15 years younger.
I have saved all of his columns this year and some from last year. Mr. Clemens might like to know that Norman published a book in 2016 when he was 87, titled “From Nowhere to Somewhere: My Political Journey.”
Norman’s long career has been spent working in liberal politics for Minnesota political leaders: Govs. Freeman and Rolvaag, Congressman Dan Fraser, Sens. Wendell Anderson, Eugene McCarthy, Walter Mondale and Hubert Humphrey. He was then press secretary to Vice President Humphrey and edited Humphrey’s autobiography. He now lives in Coralville. I sent him a letter saying how much I love his columns since he nails it every time. What a guy!
