Lorrenne is survived by her three sons, Lynn (Nancy) of Naperville, Ill., and their children, Connor of Naperville, Ill., and Haley and Riley Mulherin, both of Chicago, Ill.; Deacon Dennis (Kimberly) of Cedar Rapids and their children, Katie (David) Benevento of Cedar Rapids, Sarah (Matthew) Rumery of Marion and Daniel Mulherin of Cedar Rapids; and John (Jenny) of Walford and their children, Roman (Crystal) Daywitt of Parkin, Ark., and Abby Daywitt, Gavin and Caden Mulherin, all of Walford; and great-grandchildren, Flynn, Sadie and Jax Rumery, and Kamryn and Nova Daywitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Glen; three brothers; and two sisters.
Lorrenne was born on July 3, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of George J. and Florence I. Stark Young. She attended Palo Elementary School, graduated in 1944 from Palo High School and attended Mt. Mercy College. On June 27, 1950, she married Glen Mulherin at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fairfax. Lorrenne and Glen owned and operated Sunnybrook Boarding Kennels from 1973 until her retirement in 2002.
Lorrenne was a person of great faith in Jesus Christ. She was a faith-filled Catholic and was a founding member of St. Jude Catholic Church and later an active member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and those who were like family to her, often welcoming women's groups into her home for morning coffee and opening her home to those who were in need. She believed blessings are not meant to be hoarded, but to be shared with others; she did so through writing and sharing her book, “A Grandmother’s Book of Blessings,” through sharing “A Servant’s Prayer” which she received from her Lord, and from her many spiritual talks given at retreats. Lorrenne shared the blessings of her life with all those she knew. She had many titles: "Happy" – a nickname from her older brothers, "one of the Young twins," shared with her twin sister Lorraine, "farmer's daughter" and later "farmer's wife," but the titles she was proudest of were "mother" and "grandma."
Memorials may be directed to Mary’s Meals in Lorrenne’s name.
