William “Bill” E. Spratte, 86, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, at Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be held at 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. Burial at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Bill was born on March 10, 1937, to John and Sylvia (Naylor) Spratte in Brandon, Iowa. He graduated 1955 from Newhall High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marines. Bill was united in marriage to Janet Baresel on Sept. 10, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa, Iowa. Bill was in communications and worked for N.W. Bell and AT&T for over 30 years.
He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and especially playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Janet; children, David (Nancy) Spratte of Des Moines, Kathleen Spratte of Des Moines, Sheryl (Craig) Price of Willmar, Minn., and Steven Spratte of Crab Orchard, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, John Spratte of Westminster, Colo.; two nieces; and one nephew.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters; two sisters-in-law; and one nephew.
Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, Iowa, Camp Courageous or a charity of your choosing.
