Betty Nell Smith was born Nov. 23, 1933, in Harper, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Adella (Fry) Reinert. She graduated from Webster High School in 1952. On Aug. 8, 1954, Betty was united in marriage to Richard E. Smith at the North English Christian Church, North English. They lived in Webster and in 1997 moved to Walford. Betty worked for Evans Photography, later owned and operated J&C Cafe in Keswick for 10 years, helped her husband with Smith Foil Prints for 10 years and was also a homemaker. Betty was a member of the Webster United Methodist Church and later attended Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford. Betty was a member of The True Blue Club in Webster and the Clover Ridge Women’s Group. Betty enjoyed sewing, fishing, gardening, canning and watching her great-grandchildren grow up. Betty passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, at Colonial Manor of Amana at the age of 89 years.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Debra (Gary) Hall of Walford and Kimberly (Richard) Ebsen of Middle Amana; one granddaughter, Jennifer Ebsen; two great-granddaughters, Arianna and Kailee Ebsen; and a step-grandson, Jason Hall.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard; and one brother, Robert Reinert.
A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at Clover Ridge United Methodist Church in Walford. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Burial will be at the Sorden Cemetery in Webster at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for Essence of Life Hospice. Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg is caring for arrangements.
