Paulette Susan Reed, 75 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Aug. 6, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice in Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2023, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2023, at Springville United Methodist Church, burial at Springville Cemetery will follow.
Paulette was born March 1, 1948, in Everett, Wash., and grew up in Ellsworth, Iowa. On Dec. 27, 1968, she married William Reed in Ellsworth. The couple lived in Washington D.C. for two years before returning to Iowa and settling in Springville, where they lived for the next 50 years.
Paulette earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell College in Mount Vernon and a master's degree from Marycrest University in Davenport. She taught art in the Cedar Rapids Community School District for 30 years, beginning at Arthur Elementary and then moving to Franklin Middle School.
Paulette is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bill, and their three children and eight grandchildren: Dr. Jason Reed and wife Holly of Dyersville and their children Lisa, Genevieve, Mary, and John; Aaron Reed and wife Andrea of Marion and their children Henry and Quinn; and Dr. Alycia Lentz and husband Timothy of Coralville and their children Evangeline and Guy. Also surviving are two brothers, Gene and Olene Hanson, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Wilma and Joseph Hanson, and a brother, Richard Hanson. She will be desperately missed by all who knew and loved her.
Paulette's family extends their gratitude to the staff at the Oldorf Hospice for the caring attention she received, and a special thanks to Wanda Taylor of BrightStar Care for the loving and tender way she cared for Paulette during her last two weeks of her life. She was truly a gift from God.
