Betty Irene (Divis) Stockman, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2023. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with a visitation one hour prior. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oxford, Iowa.
Betty was born July 1, 1940, to Luetta June Colson and Joseph Divis in Cedar Rapids. She graduated from Cedar Rapids Washington High School in 1958. After graduation, she worked at Collins Radio where met her future husband. She married Ronald William Stockman on Oct. 1, 1960, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years. Later in life, she worked at Paul Revere’s Pizza.
If you knew Betty, you knew she almost never went anywhere without crochet hook and thread. She loved to make and sell handmade lace doilies, crocheted Christmas tree ornaments, baby booties and blankets and hanging towels. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and watching true crime shows. She and her husband loved to travel to warm, tropical places like Key West and Saint Martin. She collected decorative spoons and footed coffee cups from her travels. She could tell you where every item came from.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ronald; daughter, Marilyn (Jim) Podgorski of Cedar Rapids; brother, Bob Divis (RoNay) of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Christopher (Tracy) Perez, Samantha (Aryegh) Moskowitz, Megan (Jacoby) Pledge and Alissa Stockman; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan, Collin, Eliana, Eden, Jaylen, Arabella and Grayson; brother-in-law, Larry (Berna) Stockman of Dayton, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Larry and Marvin Divis; brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Susie Thomas; and her son, Roger Stockman.
