Dennis was born on Oct. 31, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, son of Royal and Phyllis Worrall Long. He attended Wilson Junior High School and graduated in 1969 from Jefferson High School. Dennis married Michelle (Shelly) Ann Helms on Oct. 17, 1981, in Cedar Rapids. He began work in 1969 as a pressman for Direct Mail, Compo Arts and Cedar Graphics, retiring in 2021. During that time he also worked in construction and was a school bus driver.
Dennis enjoyed hunting, especially duck hunting, fishing, camping and anything outdoors. Dennis loved woodworking and making things for his family. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and saw them win a World Series, which was amazing. Dennis was also an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan, watching them win two Super Bowls. He was devoted to his faith and family, for which he said made him feel like a “rich man.”
Memorials may be directed to the family to be put toward Dennis’ favorite charity.
