Dale Bixler, 86, passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Arbor Springs Care Center in West Des Moines.
Dale was born in Clarence, on June 30, 1937, to Mearl and Dorothy (Kintzel) Bixler. He graduated from Clarence High School in 1956 and earned a degree in business from the University of Iowa in 1960. He met Sheryl Smith at the University of Iowa and they married in 1963. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on Aug. 18. Dale worked at the Federal Reserve Bank for 39 years, retiring in 1999. Dale and Sheryl raised their two children in Wheaton, Ill. They moved to Huntley, Ill., (Del Webb Sun City) in 1999 until 2018 when they moved to a senior living community in Clive, Iowa.
Dale enjoyed his time at their condo on Lake Geneva, Wis. He also enjoyed baseball (Cubs), the Iowa Hawkeyes, history, western movies, traveling and times with friends and family.
Dale is survived by his wife; his two children, Jeffrey (Kim) of Incline Village, Nev., and Laura Henry (Matt) of West Des Moines, Iowa; and grandchildren, Tom, Samantha, and Ryan Bixler and Alli and Jenna Henry.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Jake and Ethel Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Merlyn and Carlene Bixler; along with friends and other family members.
Visitation will be on Saturday, Aug. 5, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clarence, at 10 a.m., with the service at 11 a.m. Following the church service, there will be a brief graveside service at the Clarence Cemetery and a lunch at the church.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Chapman Funeral Home in Clarence.
In loving memory of Dale, contributions may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association or JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
