Erick William Kerkman passed tragically on July 14, 2023.
A visitation will be held for Erick and his daughter Danielle from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, at the Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., in Vinton. A prayer service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, also at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established.
He was the only child, born Feb. 26, 1977, of William and the late Kathy (Stortz) Kerkman of rural Atkins. Erick attended Central Lutheran school then Benton Community School where he was active in Jazz, Show Choir and Marching Bands. After graduating in 1995, he attended Iowa State University studying agricultural engineering and continued in Marching Band for ISU. He received his bachelor’s degree in 2000.
Erick married Courtney Lohrer June 1, 2002 in Newhall, Iowa. They were blessed to adopt Danielle in 2007 and Daxton in 2010 while currently residing in North Liberty, Iowa. While Erick changed careers over the years working for Evergreeen Packaging, Hartness International, UPS and farming, the jobs he did best was husband and father. He was always there for his family. They were first and foremost what he lived for and would move mountains to ensure their happiness.
Erick is survived by his wife, Courtney; son, Daxton; father, William; and in-laws, Gary and Deb Lohrer, Travis and Jennifer Lohrer, Steve and Kim Lohrer, with son Max.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathy; his maternal grandparents, Howard and Bettye Stortz; and his paternal grandparents, Vernon and Virgina Kerkman.
