The 2023 Iowa Girls Coaches Association all-state softball teams

State champions Williamsburg and North Linn landed three first-team players apiece on the Iowa Girls Coaches Association all-state squads, released Wednesday.

Williamsburg (36-9), which was ranked No. 1 all season in Class 3A, claimed the 3A title in dominating fashion, outscoring its three Fort Dodge foes by a combined 23-1 margin.

Seniors Peyton Driscoll and Elle Ridgeway were first-team picks, along with junior Shannon Finn.

North Linn (39-6) was the 1A champion, the Lynx’s third title in five years. Senior pitcher Ellie Flanagan, the 1A all-tournament captain, is a first-teamer along with the junior infield duo of Skylar Benesh and Kenzie Bridgewater.

Iowa City Regina, the 2A champion, landed a pair of first-team picks in seniors Ashley Webb and Courtney Kessler. The Regals (30-8) captured their second consecutive 2A title, their fifth overall.

Fifth-place teams Benton Community (3A, 29-15), Lisbon (2A, 35-8) and Sigourney (1A, 27-5) also had two first-teamers apiece.

Ana Glawe and Jessa DeMoss represent Benton; Peyton Robinson and Ryleigh Allgood were Lisbon selections; Carly Goodwin and Josephie Moore were picked for Sigourney.

The Metro did not have a state-tournament team, but did land four first-team selections: Addy Alber of Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Emily Koranda of Linn-Mar and Piper Johnson of Cedar Rapids Prairie were picked in 5A, and Duanna Coyle of Cedar Rapids Xavier was a 4A selection.

All five coach-of-the-year picks were from state-championship teams, including Adam Berte of Williamsburg, Angela Kessler of Regina and Chad Spore of North Linn.
