Joe Wieskamp scored 27 points for Toronto in its NBA Summer League finale Sunday in Las Vegas, but the Raptors nonetheless declined to pick up the former Iowa Hawkeye’s 2023-24 salary of $1.93 million.
Muscatine’s Wieskamp was a second-round draft pick of the San Antonio Spurs two years ago. He played in 29 games for the Spurs, averaging 2.1 points.
San Antonio waived him before last season started, and Wieskamp then joined the Wisconsin Herd of the NBA G League. After two 10-day contracts, he signed a two-year contract with Toronto. He averaged 1.0 points over nine games and 50 minutes with the Raptors and played 10 games with their G League team.
Tuesday was the deadline for Toronto to guarantee Wieskamp’s contract for next season.
Wieskamp scored 1,283 points over his three seasons at Iowa, averaging 14.8 points as a junior.
