Betty Jane Sproston
Lisbon
Betty Jane Sproston, 84, of Lisbon, entered eternal rest on the morning of Thursday, July 13, 2023, at her home, surrounded by loved ones. Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon, is assisting the family.
Betty was born on Nov. 4, 1938, in Toddville, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore Coleman and Mildred (Swallom) Hall. Betty cultivated a hard work ethic while working on her family’s farm and she carried this principle all through life, in the various positions she held in her professional life, as well as her personal life. She was a woman of grit and grace.
Betty loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who adored her and cherished their time with her as well. She was an avid reader, enjoyed the art of crochet, and had a green thumb. Her talent of gardening and fondness for the birds and squirrels helped to create a backyard sanctuary brimming with birdsong, scurrying feet and wondrous beauty.
Betty is survived by her children, Deb (Ken) Wilson of Camdenton, Mo., and Randy (Connie) Sproston of Lisbon, Iowa; grandchildren, Holly (Justin) Fencl of Solon, Iowa, Tracy Flory of Mechanicsville, Iowa, Cassie (David) Wendler of Lisbon, Iowa, and Taylor Stoneking of Lisbon, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Emma Fencl, Declan and Lachlan Flory, Payton, Hazel, Wes and Wade Wendler, and Addy, Lainey and Aiden Stoneking; sister-in-law, Shirley Coleman; and beloved cats, Jenna and Amy.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother, Millie Hall; brother, Darrel Coleman; and grandson, Chad Flory.
Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice who played a vital role in Betty’s end of life care. She deeply admired her caregiver, Jim Booth, a sentiment her family shares. We thank you, Jim for your support of and care for Betty and her family during this most fragile of times.
Please share your support and memories with Betty’s family on her Tribute Wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under obituaries.
