NEW LIBERTY — The Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois welcomed a gift of $35,000 from the Aegon Transamerica to support outdoor health and wellness programs for local girls.
The funding from Aegon Transamerica ensures that Girl Scouts will have a transformative outdoor experience, boosting their self-esteem and physical well-being, according to a news release from the Girl Scouts.
“Aegon Transamerica is fueling new opportunities for Girl Scouts to experience high-quality, safe outdoor activities. Girls will learn new outdoor skills while developing healthy minds, bodies, and souls,” said Diane Nelson, CEO of Girl Scouts of Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois.
Camp is the perfect place to help girls develop healthy habits. Girl Scouts hike, kayak, rock climb, ride horses, sleep outdoors and learn how nature positively impacts their physical and mental health. While trying high-energy activities, they learn that food and restful sleep can fuel their bodies to continue doing the activities they love with supportive friends.
Thousands of girls, volunteers and families visit Camp Liberty in New Liberty, Camp Little Cloud in Dubuque County and Camp L-Kee-Ta in Des Moines County annually to develop their outdoor skills and experience nature.
Through programs from coast to coast, Girl Scouts of all backgrounds and abilities can be unapologetically themselves as they discover their strengths and rise to meet new challenges — whether they want to climb to the top of a tree or the top of their class, lace up their boots for a hike or advocate for climate justice, or make their first best friends.
Backed by trusted adult volunteers, mentors, and millions of alums, Girl Scouts lead the way as they find their voices and make changes that affect the issues most important to them.
