Richard “Dick” C. Marett, 76, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2023, 10 a.m. to noon, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at noon.
Dick was born on Jan. 13, 1947, in New Bern, N.C., to Norman and Olive Jean (Cannon) Marett. He was a graduate of Michigan State University. During his time there he was a disc jockey for a commercial radio station. Dick was united in marriage to Janet Schober on July 11, 1969. Together they moved to Cedar Rapids where Dick worked at Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 2012. He also served as the president of their condo association in St. Augustine, Fla.
Dick was very passionate about music, and loved live music. He enjoyed spending his time at the beach, reading, and working on various DIY projects. He had a wry sense of humor and made friends everywhere he went. He and Janet were regulars at RG Books, Vino’s, Mandarin Spice, and Zeppelins. They greatly cherished the friendship and support of all the staff there.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Rebecca (Chris) Passi; son, Christopher (Stephanie) Marett; grandchildren, Alexander, Owen, Ben and Keira; sister, Pamela Marett; and nephew, Peyton Marett.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
