John Anderson Maxwell, 83, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023. Services will be held at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories on Thursday, July 13, 2023: visitation 9:30 a.m., funeral service 11 a.m., burial service with military rites following.
John got his first car at age 13 and flew his first solo flight at 16. He enlisted in the United States Air Force, rising to chief of the honor barracks. He then trained as a communications engineer, working for Northwestern Bell and AT&T for 30 years. Upon retirement, he raised trumpeter swans for the Department of Natural Resources and traveled across the U.S. as well as Europe and the UK. A lifelong lover of cars, John restored many antique automobiles, most notably a 1917 Maxwell touring sedan that achieved top prizes at the national Antique Automobile Club of America.
John is survived by his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Barbara A. Maxwell; his son, Sean D. (Gloria) Maxwell; and his daughter, Jennifer A. Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas James Maxwell, and his mother, Mark Meek Maxwell, as well as his brothers James and Lawrence Maxwell and sister Genevieve England.
